Castelnau-Magnoac. Creating a learning area

Castelnau schoolchildren from classes CE2, CM1 and CM2, accompanied by their teacher Élodie Castaing, met at the cairn at the end of rue de Villeneuve to carry out a long-term action aimed at promoting biodiversity.

The place is beautiful, grassy, surrounded by colorful vegetation and overlooking Lake Magnoac. Technically, the operation is carried out with the help of the Permanent Center for Environmental Initiatives (CPIE) in Bagnères-de-Bigorre and the Maison de la nature et de l’environnement (MNE) in Puydarrieux. CPIE was delegated by Fabrice Loose, Anaïs Coutier represented MNE, AFR (Association of Rural Families) Magnoac was present thanks to its facilitator Christian Bollègue. The municipality makes the trial site available to children. At the end of March, this day was dedicated to the planting of shrubs to create a hedge.

The schoolchildren started by learning how to make pralines. This involves soaking the roots that we intend to plant in the ground, in a mixture of water and earth, i.e. mud, which must have a fairly precise consistency. There was no shortage of enthusiasts who dug holes and put plants there. More plantings will be done later. In addition to planting, it involves observing the development of the planting area to see if and what biodiversity, fauna and flora are developing there.

So it is rewarding work done in real time that allows children to tangibly see the results. Chloé Mouth, head of the “Little Town of Tomorrow” program, and of course the mayor of the town, Bernard Verdier, were also present to encourage the children during the implementation of this educational area.
