Terrible news for cycling. Belgian professional cyclist Jonas Bresseleers (24) lost his life after being hit by a truck. The accident happened this Friday in Meer in the province of Antwerp.
Already a serious accident in 2019
According to Het Laatste Nieuws the overturned Belgian rider suffered serious head injuries and died shortly afterwards. “The truck driver immediately stopped. He saw that the victim was seriously injured on the head and tried to administer first aid, but it was ineffective. said a local police representative.
Drug and alcohol tests conducted on the 29-year-old driver were negative.
On Facebook, Jef Robert, the president of his former club (Acrog-Tormans), spoke about this tragedy: “We are at a loss for words to describe this incredible tragedy. Best wishes to the bereaved families. Life is sometimes inhuman”.

In 2019, Jonas Bresseleers was already hit by a van during a non-professional race. While the Belgian escaped with minor injuries, his teammate Stef Loos, also knocked down, succumbed to his injuries after remaining in a coma for several hours.
