While models predict the possible disappearance of these birds by 2100, four new colonies of emperor penguins (Aptenodytes forsteri) have been discovered in Antarctica, one of which is said to have more than 1,000 individuals. This discovery was made by the British Antarctic Survey (United Kingdom).

Clearly visible droppings
This brought the number of their colonies to 66. The evolution and movements of these populations are monitored by tracking their droppings clearly visible on the white ice in satellite images.
