Lavelanet. High school students drew attention to disabled sports

A half-day of visual and motor wheelchair awareness was organized at LP Jacquard.

Initiated by Magala Pecceu, Professor of Logistics and Officer for Sustainable Development, this awareness-raising is also linked to the goals of E3D (School/Establishment in Sustainable Development Approach), a designation obtained by the educational institution. This event was organized by the managers of Handisports 09, Marie-Josée Jimenez, President, Nicole Sicre, Treasurer and Lauriane Miquel, Development Agent. In total, about 35 second-year students were introduced to various sports, torball, boccia, archery.

Boccia, a Paralympic sport played in pairs, demonstrated how, despite a sometimes very serious handicap, the ball could be directed using a ramp at or very close to the “Jack”. Torball and his sound balloon emphasized the importance of listening and focusing so that he was directed very close to his chosen target. Archery, first a test in the position of a fit person, then in a chair, but adding the difficulty of a handicap on one hand or arm, therefore holding the bow with the arms unusual, surprised and gave food to the students. food for thought.

As for the wheelchair course, it revealed the daily difficulties of people with disabilities in wheelchairs, opening doors, going to the toilet, walking forwards and backwards, but also the courage and will to devote themselves intensively to sports activities.
