Limoux: 12 students trained in nonviolent communication

Municipal agents from the mediation service of the city of Limoux came to meet the students of the Sainte-Germaine school to share their experiences.

The visit, which is part of the non-violent communication approach, applied in the school for several years. This learning is already initiated in kindergarten with the help of “peace chairs”.

Subsequently, in Cycles 2 and 3, all students benefit each year from Non-Violent Communication (NVC) training as part of Moral and Civic Education and practice the technique of “clear messages”, a communication tool to resolve legal disputes by refers only to adults, develops autonomy and makes students responsible.

12 new mediators

From the start of 2023-2024, CM2 student volunteers act as ‘course facilitators’. during the break.

They work in pairs and offer a conciliatory service to their comrades when the “clear message” doesn’t work. This year, 12 new mediators, CM1 students, have just completed training to join this team.

“Student mediators have learned the protocol, set the rules and guarantee the framework of the mediation.”

By listening, they help the protagonists calmly formulate their complaints and look for solutions. In general, just the act of talking can relieve tension,” explains reference teacher Edye Bordelais.

To this end, these students participated in additional learning activities after class for 14 sessions, worked on a mediation protocol, and practiced numerous simulations. Now they are ready for the field.

These young mediators also received their diplomas from mediation service agents as well as armbands to enable other students to identify them.
