As always, at the same time, data on world airport traffic for the past year has just been published.
At least we can say that 2023 will be a good year as we are almost back to pre-Covid numbers (93.8% traffic in 2019) with almost 8.5 billion people transported per year. Only the top 10 airports in the world accounted for more than 10% of all traffic.
As is often the case, it is on the American side that these numbers are the highest with five American airports in the Top10; which given the scale of the country and domestic network is not necessarily surprising. Because when it comes to international customers, big “hubs” like Dubai, Istanbul and Europeans like Paris, Amsterdam or London dominate.
