Town halls are fully organized two months before the European elections. They have to face several problems: the lack of evaluators, the display of lists and the organization of representatives. The town halls received a letter from the prefecture regarding billboards for electoral rolls. They must offer enough signage for each candidate list to display two election posters and provide at least one location for each polling station.
But European elections attract a high number of candidates. in 2019 34 lists were announced, which led to a lack of signs in certain municipalities. Mayors will only be able to know the number of lists this year closing of nomination paperson May 17.
“We do not know the number of posters”
The deadline is too short Only 10 days before the start of the official campaign for some rural mayors. “We do not know the number of posters. We would like to know” asks Jean-Paul Carteret, mayor of Lavoncourt in Haute-Saône.
The vice-president of the association of rural mayors of France took the lead in order not to be left unprepared for the big day. “We have to plan 25, 30 billboards until we have the number of posters to put up. I have big boards of 2.50 x 2.50 meters. We will divide them into four to put a poster on each part. We will try to organize that way because it is unnecessary to spend costs for use every five years.” add this one.
President, two assessors, secretary
The law also states that each polling station shall consist of a presiding officer, at least two assessors and a secretary. The mayor of Lavoncourt had already advanced to “recruit” into their single polling station. “The city team, including the husband/wife, is a team of assessors. We also have friends who come to help us.” explains.
For the first time, proxies will be able to do this done completely onlinewithout going through the police station or the town hall. “It saves time for the gendarmes who have been given proxies. But at the town halls, the secretaries will always have to continue to register in the electoral rolls using proxies.” said the mayor. “We will do everything to make it go well” concludes.
