During the February holidays, about fifteen young people aged 11 to 14 from the MJC in Puylaurens took part in a nature day with the Diane du Ravelin hunting company. The goal was to create and install a wicker ball around the pond. In 2022, hunters from the hunting company Diane du Ravelin worked on a pond restoration project, installed near the fitness trail. This restoration is supported by the Tarn Hunters Federation. “We have been working to rehabilitate this pond for two years. We dug it out completely, which is gradually starting to replenish its water,” explains André Bonnet, president of the hunting society. And he adds: “we involved young people from the MJC in the project. During the last holidays, they came to create and install a wicker ball around the pond.” The teenagers made braids out of the wicker and then planted the cuttings to take root and become a hedge. The idea is to establish a hedge with vegetation to prevent water evaporation. This wicker braid is a rare ally for living species such as birds and amphibians that have already started to take over the hedge. For André Bonnet, “it is important to show young people and non-hunters what we do every day for nature. The teenagers liked what they were doing. They were very involved in this mission.” And there will be a continuation of this day as the project to install nest boxes on Plessis stilts is being worked on. Maybe during next spring break. “It’s a lot of work around nature and the ecological transformation that the young people of the MJC are implementing,” concludes André Bonnet.
