Laurence Bertrand Dorléac, president of the National Foundation for Political Science (FNSP), assured on Monday, March 18 that the institution will “unyielding” if anti-Semitic acts were proven at the school, a week after the controversial pro-Palestinian mobilization.
On Tuesday, March 12, there were incidents as part of the day of mobilization of European universities for Palestine. About three hundred students filled the amphitheater “end genocidal war and colonization in Palestine”. During this unannounced event, a student member of the Union of Jewish Students of France (UEJF) was denied entry to the amphitheater. Versions differ as to the reasons for this refusal, but the UEJF accused the organizers of making anti-Semitic remarks towards this student. Allegations that Sciences Po’s Palestine Committee refutes.
“Absolutely reprehensible things have happened in the sense that we cannot prevent the course. There are three hundred associations at Sciences Po, they have to ask permission to meet. In this case, Boutmy’s amphi (Sciences Po main amphitheater) was occupied by students, and whatever the cause of these students, it is the first mistake”reported Laurence Bertrand Dorléac at France Inter.
The school “is the subject of possibly undue interest”
“On the other hand, reports have been made that relate to facts that are also reprehensible. If a student was prevented from entering the auditorium on the grounds that she belongs to an organization of young Jewish students in France, it is absolutely reprehensible.”added the president of FNSP, responsible for the main strategic focus and management of Sciences Po.
“An administrative investigation was decided on the second day. The first auditions will take place here (Monday) Morning. And on the other hand, section 40 was filed, i.e. notification to the public prosecutorshe said. These investigations will tell what exactly happened. If there have been anti-Semitic acts, we will be ungovernable. »
“I am very alert to any anti-Semitic acts that may occur. I’m really observing the freezing of the climate and it’s normal to be concerned about it.”continued Mme Bertrand Dorléac.
But “be careful not to pit communities against each other and students against each other”she added, judging that Sciences Po “is the subject of, shall we say, disproportionate interest”.
On Wednesday, March 13, in the Council of Ministers, President Emmanuel Macron condemned as “unspeakable and utterly unbearable” remarks given during a pro-Palestinian mobilization at Sciences Po Paris on March 12.
