The Greek authorities have decided to increase the prices of their monuments for visitors.
And to all gentlemen, honor with the Acropolis and its 3.5 million annual visitors, whose ticket is gradually multiplied by three. We have gone from €10 to €20 since the beginning of April and will cost €30 in April 2025, which is much more expensive than many French sights and landmarks. The only consolation: people under the age of 18 or citizens of the European Union under the age of 25 will still be able to visit these places for free.
Please note that the Acropolis can now also be visited on a private tour outside official opening hours. Between 7:00 and 9:00 in the morning or 20:00 to 22:00 in the evening, the site can be privatized for a group of a maximum of 5 people at a cost of… €5,000 per service.
But that is not all. Because beyond the Acropolis, the prices of all 350 archaeological sites and museums in the country will increase to varying degrees depending on their “tourist interest”. Enough to potentially limit the number of visitors and effectively combat over-tourism; well in a way…
